Maple base and finished with heavyweight natural cowhide one one side (grain side) and balsa wood on the other. The leather is meant for a medium grit compound to remove burs and hone and edge. The balsa wood is great for that final polish with a fine-superfine compound and is the only thign I will use  to bring out that mirror polished edge.

Strops are sold individually without compound. For best results use Dia paste or other quality compound on the leather side, and Maggard Razors Chromium Oxide Paste 0.50 micron or White Diamond polish on the balsa side.
